Obituary for Helen Shelley Cox

Helen Shelley Cox
Helen S. Cox, age 103, formerly of Johnson City, TN, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. A native of Damascus, VA, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Dorcus Perdue Shelley. Mrs. Cox retired from the Levi Strauss Company, and was a member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Cox moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina 10 years ago to be closer to her daughter. While there, she lived in the White Oak Assisted Living Center.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Paul Cox; two brothers, William and Opa Shelley; one sister, Bertha Arnold; half-brother, John Shelley; a half-sister, Ella May Crutchfield and a Son-in-Law Harley Courtney
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Courtney, Rock Hill, South Carolina; a half-brother, Richard Shelley, Jr., Denver Colorado; two half-sisters, Jane Williams, Johnson City, and Delores Parker, Charlotte, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Cox will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Deaton officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
The graveside service and interment will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park, Johnson City. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
